Sean Baker Tangerine iPhone stillSean Baker’s Tangerine is still unlike anything before it – a blast of heightened reality that is a sincere as they come. It’s also a great low-key Christmas film, and like any other Baker project, shines a spotlight on a marginalized subculture with utmost empathy.

To keep things lean and shrewd, Baker employed the use of three iPhone 5s’ to lens the movie. Rather than turning this approach into a gimmick, Baker and cinematographer Radium Cheung took this nimble freedom and used it to create something entirely immersive.

Now, the Academy has secured one of the iPhones used in production, and is giving it a permanent spot in its Academy Museum.

It’s a truly historic piece that’s sure to be a marvel as Tangerine and Baker’s status only continue to rise with time. via
