ILM and Pixar alum, Carlos Baena, is looking to complete an animated horror short called La Noria (spanish for The Ferris Wheel). Baena describes the story as something very personal from him, and the premise involves a boy trying to navigate a devastating loss, instantly calling to mind work from Guillermo del Toro’s early years.
In addition, the international project has a lot going for it, including music from Let the Right One In’s Johan Soderqvist, and The Devil’s Backbone/The Orphanage sound designer Oriol Tarragó. There sadly just aren’t many animated shorts willing to get dark to explore personal catharsis through horror, and I can’t wait to see how this one turns out.
