10_cloverfield_lane_posterSurprise! J.J. Abrams and crew have made a secret spin-off to Cloverfield called 10 Cloverfield Lane, and it comes out in March! The film comes as a complete surprise, just like the original, and I’m really, really loving this trailer. From what I can tell, the film either takes place in the same universe as the original film, or is using just the Cloverfield name to start a new banner of Twilight Zone-style anthology films – which I’d much prefer.

The premise looks like something that wouldn’t be out of place in a more psychological indie film, and I like that it looks to be treasuring dark, intimacy rather than big spectacle.

Another thing of note is the talent involved. M.E. Winstead and John Goodman are no joke, and neither are director Dan Trachtenberg and co-writer Damien Chazelle, so it looks like we’ve got something new to look forward to. Honestly, its just cool to have Abrams use his clout to push out smaller films with overlooked talent.

Not long to see if this is great, but until then, Netflix Winstead’s latest film Faults. It’s got a similar vibe and it’s genuinely great.
