Mark my words, Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation is one of this year’s most mandatory films, and Theodore Shaprio score is integral to its tangible tension. Revolving around the reunion of a group of friends, Kusama’s chamber thriller is suffocating right from the get, constantly spiralling into an almost unparalleled exercise in psychological terror – there isn’t a single thing wasted in the film.
