If you live in Los Angeles and doen’t like your films safe and neutered, then you already know that Beyond Fest is THE BEST fest out there, period. The crew have officially announced their 2017 lineup, and you’d better sit down before continuing. This year’s list is jam-packed with unmissable repertoire offerings, festival buzz hits and obscure delights.
As a fitting centerpiece, a 4K restoration of Dario Argento’s Suspira anchors the entire event, and yes, the legendary director will be in town for a rare appearance.
Other appearances include De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise with singer Paul Williams, Arnold Schwarzenegger repping Predator and Running Man, Tommy Wiseau with The Room, Van Damme with Jean-Claude Van Johnson and a conversation with Edgar Wright and Walter Hill on Baby Driver and The Driver.
But what about the buzz selection? We’ve got premieres of Craig Zahler’s (Bone Tomahawk) Brawl in Cell Block 99, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s (The Cure, Pulse) Before We Vanish, Joe Lynch’s Mayhem, Ted Geoghean’s Mohawk, and a closing night with the mighty Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Also of note, a few of these are no-strings free screenings, so if you miss out, that’s your bad.
Check out the full lineup at BeyondFest.com and trust me, this is THE film fest to attend – everything else is just noise.
