The title sequence from David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is hands down the best opening I saw all last year. From Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Karen O’s Led Zeppelin cover, Kellerhouse’s typeface, and the black liquid that encompasses everything it touches, the sequence beats you to death in a fit of ultra-loud and violent submission before the movie’s first ten minutes, truly bringing back the art of the title sequence. The James Bond-ian opener is a dark journey into the mind of it’s titular character, portraying her dark, repressed trauma and phoenix-like transformation into modern day female icon. The clip was created by Blur Studio, and i09 has a great interview with the title’s creative director, Tim Miller.
